9/13/2018 0 Comments Remu - the king of autumnOur Finnish spitz Remu. The Finnish Spitz is one of two dog breeds in Scandinavia that barks at big birds and squirrels in trees. An ancient hunting technique that has been used in the northern Scandinavia. It's also Finland's national breed.
An old saying is, that "He who owns a Finnish spitz is a rich man". This is because the squirrel pelts were worth a lot of money back in the day. Nowadays the squirrel barking is no longer desired amongst modern birdhunters, but it is deeply rooted within the being of this courageous and big-hearted red warrior of the great pine forests. 9/9/2018 0 Comments i love this houseFor this big and amazing home, I thank my amazing husband. I thank you for every hour, every board and every nail 💝🙏
This house was build 1847, and have now been renovated by us. It's spirit lives on 🍃 9/8/2018 0 Comments September 08th, 20189/7/2018 0 Comments Thank you earthThe circle of life. One moose, not hundred. One hunt, not a massacre. One animal that have lived, not raised behind bars crowded among thousand others. The blood is on my own hands, not someone else's.
Thank you earth, I cherish you! "You feel like an exile at first;
You hate it like hell for a season, And then you are worse than the worst. It grips you like some kinds of sinning, It twists you from foe to a friend; It seems it's been since the beginning, It seems it will be to the end." 10/7/2015 0 Comments Arttu, the karelian bear dogI have always loved the Karelian Bear Dog. It has the look, the strength and the brain. But it is a tough breed to handle. They have alot of self-confidence and are (in my opinion) not afraid to challenge you, both in a mentally and physical way. That's why I have never even been thinking about getting one for myself. Pär has always tried to persuade me that this is the dog for us, but no, the Alaskan Malamute is quite enough as it is. Haha!
My cousin Johan has one Karelian Bear dog at the age of five, named Arttu. He is probably one the most loving creatures on the planet. So calm, friendly (towards both humans and other dogs) and a freakin' monster during hunt. He has hunted down bear, moose and even wild boars. He's a real killing machine! Today I had the privilege to spend some time with this wonderful dog when Pär and Johan went hunting capercaillie with Remu. I gave him a shower and some grooming and a lot of LOVE! Just look at this face, so gorgeous ♥ 9/23/2015 0 Comments The unpleasant realityA person that have never killed an animal may think this post is cruel or disgusting (or whatever). So hereby I warn you, if you can't stand pictures of dead animals, meat or blood (not much blood though) - Don't continue from here!
To eat we need to kill, that's it. And I am convinced that the way we live spare many animals from suffering. Today we started to slaughter our rabbits that we have raised during the summer. This spring we bought a beautiful Belgian giant, Valborg, that gave birth to 9 healthy bunnies in early june. Sadly one yellow male got killed by our cat at the age of 4 weeks. That youngster was a little to nosey for his own good, and Kattarauga don't know mercy. But that's life. You can't hate the cat for being a cat, and you can't feel sorry for a prey being a prey, and for sure, nature makes no excuses for the weak conscience of human race. In this household we try, as far as we can, to only eat what we produce ourselves or hunt down. Otherwise we buy groceries from nearby producers and live stock breeders. This is very important, especially in times like these when small scale farmers with an ethical way of raising critters, is outcompeted by industrial meat factories with horrible ways of treating animals. An animal must have lived, before it gets killed. The slaughter went very well. Calm and efficient. We have made use of the whole animal, more or less. The rabbits fur is so soft and beautiful, and will make great cushions for the house interior. Below are some pictures from the slaughter and preparation of the skins: 9/22/2015 0 Comments Frontier |

I, author of this blog, am a woman named Lotta (occasionally Pär might share his toughts also). I am originally from Västernorrland in the middle parts of Sweden, but left the high mountains and the deep valleys in the South 2011, to live in the boreal wilderness in the northernmost parts of Sweden. Here I spend my days with my wonderful husband Pär our son Einar and our dogs. This is our life.
